Show Time
Believe it or not it’s not too early to start thinking
about our annual quilt show, held each year during the first weekend of October. There are several changes in the wind this year.
Behind the scenes, there is a major change. After nearly twenty years of putting on the show with only last minute help from the guild,
Linda Fiedler and Pauline Hodges have more assistance this year. A committee has been formed with various members of the guild taking
responsibility for developing the brochure, mailings, publicity, ribbons, registration, judging, hanging and taking down the show.
Linda and Pauline remain actively involved, but have done some new delegation . In addition to Linda and Pauline, the committee
consists of Judy Anderson, Karin Tauber, Pam Frazier, Ann Reardon, Glenda George, Jean Vogler, Peggy Wirt, and Vicky Barden. Just as
in the past, there will be a need for every member who can to volunteer for the various tasks that need to be done the week of the show. There are also changes that will impact all those who exhibit in the show.
The most obvious is that it will be absolutely essential to PRE-REGISTER quilts to be shown this year. The deadline
for pre-registration is September 19,2009. All quilts or wearables that have been pre-registered must
be delivered to the Jacksonville Center or one of the pickup sites on or before Sept. 29, Registration Day. Be sure to
read the entry rules carefully for detailed instructions. When you review your registration form, you may notice that the categories
are a little different. The biggest change in this area is the
development of a Professional Quilter Category. Anyone who has won a Best of Show award, in our show or
another show, must enter their quilts in this category. The professional category does not apply to wearables.
There is also a separate category for quilts that have been quilted on a long arm machine, whether done by the owner or by
another long arm quilter. Due to space limitations, entrants are limited to one long arm quilted entry.
See registration information for a complete list of categories, definitions,
and rules. As always, the goal is to provide the regional quilting
community with a quality show, worthy of drawing exhibitors and viewers from a wide area. Upcoming Events Peaks & Pieces Quilt Guild – 13th Annual Quilt Show- Bedford

Here is a very cool interactive color wheel web site
I learned about recently:
http://www.quiltopia.com/colorwheel.html It allows one to check out various color schemes very quickly.
A sticky lint roller, the kind with sticky paper sections that pull off, is a great sewing machine side helper.
Whenever I machine appliqué, I generate many tiny threads from trimming the appliqué patch “just one more time”.
Running the lint roller over the piece is an easy way to get rid of those tiny trimmings.
Please send me your favorite tips to share with the group.
Thanks to Linda Fiedler and Judy Anderson for their help with this edition of our newsletter.
